If you’ve been wondering why one corporate CEO after another is caving so quickly to the increasingly outrageous demands by Marxist groups like Black Lives Matter, it’s because they’re scared out of their senses by the outrage mobs such groups tend to generate.
That’s according to Papa John’s founder John Schnatter, who himself has been targeted for ‘cancellation’ in recent years after he was forced to resign as head of the chain he founded in 1984 after he criticized the NFL for allowing players to kneel during the National Anthem (the franchise was a major sponsor of the league at the time).
In an interview with Just The News, Schnatter blasted the Left for it’s intolerance, despite the fact that they claim they have cornered the tolerance market.
“Everybody on the left keeps preaching diversity, unless it’s diversity of thought, diversity of philosophy, or diversity of ideology,” Schnatter said. “And if you don’t think a certain way, then you get persecuted. That’s not diversity.
“Entrepreneurship and creativity and innovation come from independent critical judgment,” Schnatter added, “which is you think for yourself, you believe in yourself, you have independent critical judgment.
“They’re trying to paint you in a corner, that if you don’t believe 100 percent in their ideology, then they persecute you, they attack you,” the former pizza franchise owner continued.
“And I think that’s extremely unhealthy for the country. And I think it’s a really bad path for the CEOs to go down. And I think they’re scared,” he said. (Related: Lunatic Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler attacks federal law enforcement for to try to appease Antifa Marxist mobs.)
As for the NFL, Schnatter told Fox Business Network in September that league commissioner Roger Goodell essentially did not have the stones to put his foot down and tamp out the protests, which were not only harming NFL viewership but also Papa John’s pizza sales because fans were tuning out (that’s going to happen again this season, if the league has one in spite of coronavirus, because players are already demanding to protest ‘systemic racism’ while promoting BLM’s message).
“I don’t know if he was behind it; I think he was a little bit frustrated with my comments. He’s not used to being challenged,” Schatter said regarding whether Goodell might have been behind his being forced out of his own franchise.
“And the NFL is very powerful. And I was what was pretty stern: You need to fix the problem here. You’re the leader. Be accountable,” he continued.
“I would have liked Roger Goodell just to fix the problem. Remember a third of our budget was the NFL,” he added. “So when the ratings I think were down some 20 percent … so it was hurting our business. It was hurting our franchisees. It was hurting our small business owners.”
Goodell didn’t ‘fix’ the problem. He simply caved, and he did so again this year following the George Floyd incident, when players demanded to be able to speak their minds and protest on-field.
As for Schnatter, he noted as well that the same Left-wing outrage mob came after Goya Foods CEO Bob Unanue, whose Spanish immigrant grandparents founded the company in the 1930s, praised President Donald Trump after he signed an executive order aimed at directing more federal resources towards Hispanic Americans, to ensure their success.
Schnatter said that Unanue “should be able to speak his mind.”
“I think that this is probably the hardest working president that we’ve ever had,” Schnatter continued.
“He understands business, he understands entrepreneurship. I mean can you imagine if we had somebody in the White House that was making decisions right now on politics instead of what’s right for Americans, what’s right for America? I mean it’d be pretty scary. I think he makes the right decision for the right reasons,” he continued.
